Forest youth games

On Thursday, 12.09.24 we, classes 4a and 4b, took part in this year’s Forest Youth Games with our teachers and our supervisor, which took place in Olpe in the Waldweg Grenzenlos.

At 8.20 a.m. we set off on the bus from the school in weatherproof clothing and with a rucksack full of a delicious breakfast and a drink.

The cold weather did nothing to dampen our spirits.
The meeting point was at 9.30 a.m. at the Waldweg Grenzenlos, where we were welcomed by the forest manager in charge.

We split up into small groups and were given a sheet with various tasks and information about the 10 stations that had been set up for us in the forest.
We set off full of curiosity.
Our walk through the forest was to take about 2.5 hours.

We made lots of discoveries and learned a lot about the forest.
There were stations where, for example, a forester told us about protective equipment and the most important tools and also demonstrated them to us.
The big chainsaw was incredibly loud.
Now we know why hearing protection is worn when working in the forest.

We particularly enjoyed one station, the rolling forest school.
We found a total of 10 animal specimens in the forest and were even allowed to stroke them carefully.
The wild boar was really big!

A forester also gave us tips when we were puzzling over the wooden treasure, for which we had to find a numerical code.
We then found lots of things made of wood in the treasure chest.
Some of them really amazed us.

During forest bathing, we lay on mats on the ground and closed our eyes.
We were only supposed to concentrate on the sounds.

There were many other stations, such as finding garbage in the forest or smelling jars.
One jar contained lavender, which didn’t smell good at all.
We also had a queasy feeling when we touched the touch boxes that we were suddenly touching something disgusting.
Fortunately, that wasn’t the case!

In between, however, it was time to take a break in the supply hut, warm up and have breakfast.
We had earned it!
Unfortunately, the rain had caught us out a few times.

At 12 noon, we took the bus back to school.
We had an eventful morning with lots of wonderful experiences.
At the end, we were given a small tree for each class, which will now be planted in the school garden.
Each of us received a certificate of participation and a Pixi book as a souvenir of the Forest Youth Games.
